If there is something you need to fear is fear itself. Fear can hold you back in your career, your relationships, and in achieving your dreams. Fear is one of the most powerful emotions. It has a very strong effect on your mind and body. To live in fear is to ensure all your own potentials erode away into nothing.
Maybe you don’t know that fear paralyze you. It might even make you avoid situations that you need in order to grow.
Fear is something we encounter on a frequent basis. We experience it in different ways each and every day. Fear, anxiety, doubt, apprehension, panic, unease, worry, are all interrelated and connected. However, what is fear?

Fear is a collection of sensations and perceptions that tell us that something is threatening. Sometimes it’s a very helpful thing that keeps us from harm. But many times it’s an inner voice and barrier that keeps us stuck and hinders our journey ahead.
What we all can agree on when it comes to fear is: it’s distressing. It’s uncomfortable; and much of the time that we’re in a state of fear, we’re simply seeking to navigate our way back out again. Since fear is a survival instinct alerting us to impending danger, it becomes a threat when our thoughts are stuck in a repetitive cycle.
In society, fear impairs the lives of those who buy into its false existence. However, there are times when fear runs amok and disrupts your daily life. Manifestation of Fear

Now, this is what most people go through when they are afraid. Unknown to them it’s just normal but it isn’t because it actually stops you from having or achieving certain things in life. I realized I was afraid of saying no because my biggest fear is rejection. I was afraid that every time I did this, I would disappoint someone, make them angry, hurt their feelings, or appear unkind or rude. Whenever you feel this just as I did, just know its fear at work.
Someone might have told to talk to that person that hurt you, go out with your dream girl, take that bucket list trip, have a baby, or take an art class. But you’ll say no because you’re afraid to fail, afraid to succeed, afraid to get rejected, afraid to stir things up, afraid to get out of your comfort zone. When you let fear cure you, you’ll start letting your soul take the lead, taking leaps of faith and saying yes when you yearn to.
· You procrastinate
Fear often manifests itself as procrastination. Most people fear failure, criticism and rejection. It’s only normal. We all want to feel good about ourselves. Failure, criticism and rejection are not pleasant experiences. They lower our self-esteem and make us feel bad about ourselves, so we often avoid doing things that we think might lead to failure, criticism or rejection. Imagination can cause fear. This is because, if your thoughts go on unchecked it will cause you to either feel anxious or panic. When we start imagining in an exaggerated way, our minds are shuffling through possibilities that may happen. It does this in order to prepare us to face them.

Often when we feel fear, we start imagining things. We let ourselves get carried away by our exaggerated expectations of what could happen. And this create in our minds a scenario worse than the real one. We get ahead of the real events, generating fear and anxiety for ourselves.
How to overcome your fears
- Define your fears
The very first step is defining your fear. Is it a fear of heights? Fear of failure? Fear of success? Fear of love? Defining it will help to reveal a lot about why you have these fears and will also help you to determine a plan of action on how to resolve the fear? Without defining your fears, you won’t be able to free your mind from it.

- Face your fears
Avoiding fears only makes them scarier. Whatever your fear, if you face it, it should start to fade.

It doesn’t mean that you make up your mind and just do it, because you know you can’t. There is a reason it is your fear and you just can’t skip a pedal to get over it. It implies analyzing it, thinking and creating a path which could help you overcome that, knowing that you can see the other side of your fear i.e. overcome it and at the same time knowing that things might not turn out to be the way you want. It simply means “TRY” irrespective of what the result it.
Running from fears never improves the way you feel about a fear. Next time you experience a fear, verbally engage the fear, using words that describe your fear and anxiety. Let me tell you this small secret, if you do not face your fears, your fears will face you. What this means is that your fears will always come back to haunt you.
Consider the pros and cons of not facing your fear. Write those down. Then, identify the pros and cons of tackling your fears head-on. Write down what you might achieve or how your life might be different.
Reading over those lists can help you make a clearer decision about what to do next. If you decide to proceed, the best way to conquer a fear is to face your fears head-on. But, it’s important to do so in a healthy manner that helps you move past the fear rather than in a way that traumatizes you.

If you always avoid situations that scare you, you might stop doing things you want or need to do. You won’t be able to test out whether the situation is always as bad as you expect, so you miss the chance to work out how to manage your fears and reduce your anxiety. Always face your fears.

Educate yourself about your fears and how they came to be. The more you are educated about it the better you will be at overcoming it

Some fears are based on personal experiences, childhood trauma or abuse or even tragedy, loss and grief or even on what someone told you. But you need to overcome these fears by knowing where the fear is coming from.

If you have a specific phobia, you may not be able to conquer your fears on your own. Tell someone you trust and care for what you’re afraid of. If your fears are debilitating, or you aren’t having much success facing them on your own, seek professional help.
Have you ever noticed that whatever you’re afraid of, is it something you have to do alone? If you have then starts thinking of doing it with someone close to you. - Have a positive attitude
Replacing our negative and fear-based thoughts with positive ones through mindful daily focus is another stepping stone to overcoming fears. One thing I would like you to have in mind is that people who have positive attitudes are successful because they keep trying after others give up. A positive attitude will help you get through the entire process — and could be the ticket to overcoming every one of your fears.
It is the mind that makes us understand, reason, judge, sense and act during the process of overcoming challenges and fear.

- Start seeing fear as an opportunity
You should learn to convert your fears to opportunity. Fear can be used as a tool to help us identify problems and solve them effectively. It’s sometimes acts as our guide, a red flag that warns us when something needs attention. When you decide to see your fears as an opportunity, believe me you won’t be afraid to face any journey, challenges or consequence. When you feel fear of something unfamiliar, take it as a sign that you need to get to know a person or situation better.
Successful people want to reach their goal more than they fear failing.
If for example you feel a flash of fear about an upcoming conference, examination or event, make it an opportunity to make a plan of action to get fully prepared, you can start by conducting research, rehearsing for a speech, and why not contact some few friends for help. But the only way you can unearth the opportunities behind your fear is to put yourself in those very situations.

- Always confront your fears. The only way to survive is to just do whatever it is that scares you.
